Here are a series of photos take of Morgan coming in to the finish. Is she having fun or what!

Morgan ran well this weekend, placing 4th on Sunday out of a stake of 16 dogs! She is consistently running well and can't wait until the next trial - unfortunately that may be a while.

Morgan earns her first points towards her AKC Field Championship

Morgan had a great weekend. This is the end of the year and there were a lot of top coursing dogs competing, looking for the last points for the year. With around 40 dogs competing in the open class, I was very proud of Morgan. On Saturday, she place 3rd in her stake to obtain her first points (2pts.) towards her AKC Field Championship title. Thanks to Mike for these great photos of Morgan.

Morgan earns her Senior Coursing Title

Morgan had another great weekend! This little girl loves to run. This was her second AKC lure coursing trial. She placed 5th on Sunday and also earned her Senior Coursing (SC) title on that same day. She is running strong and staying true to the course, and that is all one can expect at this time. Her next trial will be at the end of December.

Morgan places in ASFA trial

Congratulations Morgan! She attended her first ASFA trial this past weekend and ended up placing both days! She received a 3rd on Saturday and NBQ on Sunday!

I am very excited about this young girl. She is new to the coursing field and despite running against many FCH (AKC) she held her own and showed continued improvement with each run!
Way to go MOE!! I am proud of you!

Morgan places in her first Lure Coursing Trial

Morgan participated in her first Lure Coursing trial in Reidsville, NC this past weekend. She placed 5th in a large open class (5 pt major). I have high hopes for this girl. She ran great, tons of enthusiasm and I think by the end of the trial it was really starting to click in her head as to what she was supposed to do on the field.
Thanks to Mike for some really great photos of her. Included here are some of my favorites, but more can be seen in our web album from this event.

Walking on Air after the Southern Specialty!

Morgan and I had a great time in Atlanta! We were surprised and very excited to go Best of Opposite in Sweeps the first day there at the MAWA Specialty! Thank you judge Harriet Vincent!
Morgan's success continued as she placed EVERY day in her large class. I am very proud of this girl as she showed well all 4 days and I am happy with her consistency. Thank you to all the judges.
It was really fun to see so many whippets all at one time and to have the time to learn about whippet structure and function during movement. I also had the wonderful experience of taking Morgan's littermate ("Marlow" - Ableaim Meant To Be) back into the ring for Jenny and going BOB!
I also want to thank Mike for coming down and taking some wonderful pictures of both Morgan and her relatives! Morgan is always happier when her Papa is there!

HAPPY 1st BIRTHDAY MORGAN!!!

Today is Morgan and her littermates (Makenzie, Marlow, Minnie, Moby and Shadow) FIRST BIRTHDAY!
Morgan celebrated by arriving back at home and finally being reunited with her best friend Spirit after being apart for 10 long days. They spent the whole day running around the yard non-stop and turned themselves completely green because we had cut the grass!!! I wish I had taken a photo of that. Unfortunately for her, her special day ended with a bath!!! LOL!!!

Morgan at 11 and 1/2 months old

Hi everyone,
This past Saturday was a muggy morning in Apex, NC; Mike and I headed over to the Boyd house to get some pictures of Morgan and her litter-mates.
Here are some of the shots of Morgan that Mike got. As always, she seems to be growing up too fast for me.

PS. I have added some new email addresses to these postings. If you would rather not receive the posts, let me know. I will take you off the list.

Richmond, VA dog show

Morgan and I had a good time in Richmond this past weekend. Morgan did a good job, as she behaved in the ring and showed well both days. I couldn't ask for more at this time (she is only 10 and 1/2 months old).
I think we made it difficult for the judges, however, entering three girls from Tyler and Reese's litter each day. It was interesting, because both judges said the exact same thing to us when we were in the ring;
"what 3 beautiful girls, it is a shame that I have to place them, but I guess I have no choice, I have to make up my mind."
On Saturday, Morgan, Minni and Makenzie were entered and Morgan ended up with 2nd place. On Sunday, Morgan, Minni and Marlow were entered and Morgan ended up with 3rd place.
As I left the ring both days, each judge encourage me that Morgan was beautiful and would do plenty of winning in the future... so keep up the good work.

Not sure when she will be entered again. There are a few options that we are considering.

Morgan receives a Group 2 placement in Raleigh, NC

Group placements- Judge Dana P. Cline handing out ribbons.
Morgan on Saturday - during sweepstakes in the outdoor ring.

Well, it has been quite a week here at Cali Whippets. My baby girl has made me very, very proud and I think the reality of it all is still sinking in. I know how lucky I am to have this experience and I will cherish it for a long time as I have been told it is quite an accomplishment for a new handler and a young puppy.
I have to say, as the weekend progressed, I was happy that Morgan was showing well and excited to win her class again over some very tough competition. She had just turned 9 months old and just moved up to the 9-12 month puppy class. This is exactly how I wanted her to be showing at this point in time.
When she went Winners Bitch - for 2 pts. - I was ecstatic!!! There was a lot of competition in that ring and I couldn't believe that we had gotten her FIRST points. This was even more exciting as Morgan is my first show dog and this was only our 3rd weekend out showing. The excitement didn't stop there for us. Morgan went on to win BOB and BOW over her half sister "Jada" and 3 other champions. If the numbers we had are correct, this means that she will get 3 points for her FIRST MAJOR!!!!
However, the day was not over yet. Morgan went on and placed 2nd in the group ring!!!!
I can't thank Judge Dana Cline enough for this wonderful experience and acknowledgement of my special girl. His patience and ability to work with a new handler should be applauded.
Morgan is quite the show girl. She loves to show and really gave it her all this weekend. I hope this is just the start of a wonderful journey with Morgan and I can only imagine what lies ahead for us. I guess dreams do come true if you believe and try hard enough.

Morgan free-stacked inside on Saturday.
Morgan and me resting up for the Group competition.
The group placements on Sunday.

With the excitement winding down, I have started to think, what got me interested in showing in the first place. When I got my first whippet (Cali) from the Boyds, I never even thought of showing dogs. In fact, I specifically said I wasn't interested in that but could see me lure coursing so we picked out a puppy that might have potential in that field. It didn't take long for me to fall in love with the breed. Whippets are, in my opinion, the perfect pet/dog. They are friendly to everyone, but extremely loyal to their owner. They are affectionate yet independent at the same time. They will snuggle all night with you on the sofa, yet they are extremely athletic and I love to see them in the outdoors/running and coursing.
Somewhere over the past 5 years I started to notice more. I noticed the beauty of the structure of the whippet, their outline, their curves, their style and grace, their beautiful expression, their athleticism, their muscle tone, and their movement. I learned more and the more I learned the more interested I became. I saw these things in my own dogs and realized that I wanted to show that beauty to everyone else.
When the opportunity came to get a puppy from my wonderful boy "Tyler" I couldn't pass it up. I think the world of my little girl. I love her attitude, her shape and curves, her beautiful face and expression, and her movement. I am proud to own this special girl and to show her to the world and I hope it shows to the judges and everyone else watching.
